SRC Playground Consultation
In Week 4 our SRC gathered to view and vote on potential new playground ideas for HCS.
There was a huge amount of options to choose from and they voted carefully, applying stickers to their preferred equipment.
We’re hoping to upgrade some of our Junior School play equipment and even add some options in our Middle School, so getting the students opinions on what they want to see and use is crucial to our planning!
2025 Art Exhibition
What an artistic evening! Also In Week 4 our amazing SALA Art Exhibition and Competition attracted nearly 100 families over the evening to walk through the display.
We had over 100 artworks on show and families loved how professional everything looked! Well done to all our creative students.
Congratulations to our Competition winners:

LifeEd
In Week 6 our Middle School students were joined by for an important and eye-opening session on the risks of vaping and e-cigarettes.
With plenty of real talk, facts and interactive activities, students learned how to make smart choices for their health and future.
Did you know:
- The nicotine in 1 e-cigarette can equal 50 cigarettes
- If you vape you are 3 times more likely to start smoking cigarettes
- E-cigarettes can contain the same harmful chemicals found in cleaning products, nail polish remover, weed killer and bug spray
- Most vapes, even if they say they don’t, contain nicotine
Huge thanks to Jake and the Life Ed team for keeping it real and helping us all stay informed!
ÌýParliament Visit
School Captains Karli and Jedd were invited as guests to the Parliament House of South Australia, for a personal tour and lunch by Alex Dighton, Member of Parliament for Black.
They discussed projects they have been working on locally at school, and unpacked some of their aspirations for our community.
We thank you Alex for the opportunity!

Thai Visit
In Week 5 we were honoured to welcome 26 school principals from Thailand for a vibrant exchange of ideas and educational insights. The visit was a wonderful opportunity to share a brief overview of the Australian Curriculum and showcase the diverse learning pathways we offer here at HCS.
A delicious spread of canapés prepared by our talented Year 12 Food & Hospitality students — beautifully presented and absolutely mouthwatering!
And a huge thank you to our nine incredible student buddies who warmly welcomed our guests, answered questions, led school tours, and made sure everyone felt right at home. Your enthusiasm and hospitality truly embodied the spirit of HCS!
Royal Adelaide Show Visit
Last week, our International students had an unforgettable day out at the Adelaide Royal Show—and what a whirlwind of fun it was! From thrilling sideshow rides to mouth-watering food tastings, the group dove headfirst into the excitement and energy of this iconic South Australian event.
They cheered on the dog judging competitions, explored fascinating exhibitions in the big hall, and soaked up the vibrant atmosphere that makes the Show so special. For many, it was their very first time experiencing something like this—and the smiles said it all!
A few lucky students even walked away with giant fluffy toy prizes, proudly won at the carnival games. It was a day of laughter, discovery, and shared joy that brought everyone a little closer together.
Thanks to everyone who made the day so memorable!
Rock Climbing
Our incredible International students have been embracing challenge and adventure through the Senior School Outdoor Education program, taking on both indoor and outdoor rock climbing experiences that push limits and build lifelong memories.
From mastering technique on indoor walls to conquering the rugged beauty of Onkaparinga Gorge, these students have shown courage, teamwork, and a true spirit of exploration. The Gorge’s dramatic cliffs and stunning views have been the perfect backdrop for growth, laughter, and connection.
A huge shoutout to everyone who’s clipped in, climbed up, and cheered each other on. You’re not just climbing rocks—you’re climbing toward confidence, resilience, and community.
Sport
Soccer
In Week 3 HCS sent a highly motivated squad to participate in the first round of the Year 9/10 Statewide Knock Out Futsal (Soccer) competition held at Seaford Community/Recreation Centre
The squad was unfortunately plagued by injury, illness and absence on the day of competition which left the bare 5 for a 5-a-side competition – so the team had their work cut out for them right from the beginning.
The boys had an incredibly strong start to the competition beating Aldinga 10-2:
Goal scorers:
Jamie B – 5 goals
Harry S – 4 goals
Naoto I – 1 goal
They then backed it up with another strong performance against Aberfoyle, beating them 9-0:
Goal scorers:
Jamie B – 2 goals
Harry S – 3 goals
Thomas M – 4 goals
While still competitive matches, the boys unfortunately lost their next 3 matches to Seaford – 6-2 (Jamie B – 2 goals), Tatachilla – 6-0 (both ended up advancing to the finals) and Reynella East (3-1: Thomas M – 1 goal) – fatigue definitely being a contributing factor.
After the strong showing in their previous games, the boys knew their final game was not going to be as easy against Cardijn. The boys played a great match and ended on an incredibly positive note, playing their hearts out – the game finishing on a 2-2 draw (Jamie B – 2 goals).
Again, the squad represented ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ and the Soccer Program in the best possible fashion with excellent sportsmanship, behaviour and displayed a high-quality brand of football throughout all matches.
All players must be congratulated on their achievement and the effort you all put in.
We look forward to an upcoming outdoor 5-a-side competition to be held in Week 6!
Volleyball Championships
Congratulations to our amazing students who have been chosen to represent SA in the Australian Youth Indoor Volleyball Championships. The national championships will be held in Perth in September
Four of these students will travel and compete in Perth and one will train with the squad but not necessarily travel to Perth to compete.
We wish all students the very best for their volleyball competition.
Volleyball
HCS recently competed in the SA Volleyball Schools Cup tournament We entered 13 teams across Years 7 to 12 and teams played at different venues across Adelaide on Thursday, Friday and Sunday against other SA schools.
Well done to all players and coaches that represented ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ. This is the first time many of our students, and some of our coaches, have competed in such a tournament and many, if not all, will have improved on skills and game play awareness.
We had 5 teams make it through to gold medal matches:
Year 8 Girls 1 were undefeated in their pool, won their semi final to play in the gold medal match. The team played a great game but were not able to get the win, coming away with the silver medal.
Year 9 Girls were undefeated through their pool and did not give up a set. Winning their semi put them into the gold medal match. The girls played a strong game and came home with the 2-0 win and gold medal.
Year 12 Girls again were undefeated in their pool and also did not give up a set. Playing a tough semi final and winning 2-2 and by 1 point put them into the gold medal match. They had a tough game and were not able to get the win, 1-2 and coming away with the silver medal.
Year 8 Boys 1 finished first in their pool winning all their games to go through to the semi finals. They won that game 2-1 and played in the gold medal match on Sunday. The boys showed some great skills to come away with the gold medal winning 2-0.
Year 9 Boys Honours were up against the best players in the state and showed they were able to match their skills. They had some tough competition but to their credit, they won 4 out of 5 games to go through to the gold medal match. They started the game off strong winning the first set. Unfortunately they were out played and lost the next 3 sets coming away with the silver.
A huge thank you to the parents and caregivers that drove players to venues supported teams over the 3 days. A special thank you also to our ex-student volunteer coaches and our first time staff coaches.

Phone Policy and Yondr Pouches
Thank you to all of our students and families for their support with implementing the South Australian Government ban on mobile phones in schools in 2023.
