Dream Big Excursion
In week 3 our Year 9 – 12 drama students ventured out to the Festival Theatre’s Dream Big production ‘A Simple Space’ presented by the physical theatre company Gravity and Other Myths.
Students loved the interactive and risk taking performance of acrobatics, body percussion and dramatic competition and enjoyed being a part of a festival that celebrated dreaming big!
Dance Studio
Our new and improved dance studio was also reveiled earlier in the term!
Updated with a new professional grade Tarkett floor and a fresh coat of black paint, our students have loved working in the new studio, gearing up with rehearsals for thier upcoming Arts Showcase!
Alex Dighton Visit
In Week 4 our High School SRC students were today joined by Alex Dighton MP who spoke to the students about the demands, challenges, and successes of being a leader and representative of others.
He also have guidance on how to achieve success for a particular student driven campaign that the Student Representative Council have been working on.
Thank you Alex!
Reconciliation WeekÌý
Week 5 saw us celebrating Reconciliation Week with a beautiful morning tea for our students, featuring traditional damper, native fruit jams, and bush teas.
It was heartwarming to see students come together, enjoy the flavours, and engage meaningfully in the spirit of reconciliation. A lovely reminder of the importance of respect, connection, and culture.
Year 12 Mambray Creek Camp
While the rest of Adelaide was dodging the weather in Week 5, our Year 12 Outdoor Ed students headed north to escape the chaos in the beautiful Mount Remarkable National Park.
After heading out through the dust storms, the weather cleared up as they set up their campsite and got stuck into their first hike, a few wildlife close encounters and campfire fun.
The next day the group set off to climb Mount Remarkable, a challenging 15km hike that lead them though some stunning scenery, even if it was a little chilly! It took the group only about 4 hours to summit and make it back to Melrose in one piece! Hot chips were a very worthy reward for their hard work!
After another cosy night round the campfire roasting marshmallows and telling a few spooky tales, they headed home with tired legs and stories to tell.
Reception AssemblyÌý
In Week 5 our littlest students lead our Junior School assembly for the very first time and what a magnificent job they did!
After a few comforting words for the audience (“I love you mum!”), they stood and lead the National Anthem, told us all about what they had been learning and taught us a new song all about being unique!Ìý
Transition Science
At the end of Week 5 Ms Dopson and Miss Hughes took the mid-year Reception transition children up to the science labs to do some science investigations and mini experiments.
They made mini volcanoes, used microscopes, discovered which objects sink and float and then visited the marine lab to see if they could spot Nemo!
Our budding mini scientists had an amazing time in the big kids science labs!
Hip Hop Workshop
In Week 6, a group of high school students were joined by Kultar Ahluwalia, a very local hip hop artist, who ran a workshop on the art of Hip Hop.
The students had a go at creating beats and adding their own lyrics before performing their creations in front of the group.
It was a huge opportunity to build confidence, connection and identity.
Year 12 Pop Up Cafe
Also in Week 6, our Year 12 Food and Hospitality students presented their 2025 pop-up cafe, Cove & Coffee, to a group of very hungry staff as part of their major group assessment.
The students spent time learning the art of coffee and curating a special menu suitable for takeaway in preparation for the event and boy did they deliver!
They were put to the test with all hot food and drinks made to order but service and standards were outstanding! There was always a queue of eager staff and I dare say we have some budding cafe connoisseurs in our midst!
Arts Tour
At the end of Week 6, Arts students were getting in some last minute rehearsals as they took their upcoming Arts Showcase performances on tour! They had the best time performing dance, drama and music for Sheidow Park and Hallett Cove East Primary School students and some of our students were delighted to visit their former schools and give back to our wider community!
Alex Dighton Comes Back
In Week 7, As part of the Year 8 civics and citizenship unit, students heard from the local member for Black, Alex Dighton. Alex told them all about the levels of government and the importance of elections in Australia. Alex talked through some campaign strategies and the tools to help run a successful campaign. The students will use this knowledge to create their own campaigns and run a school election.
Thanks for visiting Alex!
Open Parachute
In our Junior School in Week 7, we were joined by Adelaide Crows player Reilly O’Brien for the Adelaide Crows Foundation Open Parachute Mental Health Program.
Delivered to Year 2-6 students the Open Parachute Program is a cutting-edge well-being program aimed at upskilling students, parents and teachers through peer role-modelling, which is clinically proven to help students develop resilience. Students were engaged in the program and came away with resources to help them build resilience in life.
2025 Arts Showcase
Last Thursday was the night of nights for our Arts students as they took to the stage to show off their amazing talents in the 2025 Arts Showcase. There was something for everyone with our HCS band, Junior and High School dances, Guitar Ensemble, choirs and pieces from our C-Theatre group.
ÌýWith an audience of up to 450 guests and 244 students participating in our transformed gym venue, our Arts students have amazing talent and really stepped up for their audience last night. They inspire us all to be brave, to push through challenges and to be team players.
ÌýA huge thank you to all the staff involved in running the event and to the parents for always supporting our students.
International
This term, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming international students from Brazil, France, Germany, and Japan! To kick off their Aussie adventure, they got up close with our incredible native wildlife at the local wildlife park—feeding and patting the furry locals.
The students then soaked in the stunning coastal views at The Bluff, followed by an exploration of the charming township of Victor Harbor and, of course, what better way to wrap up a day of sightseeing than the classic fish and chips feast?
ÌýOur international students also recently put their puzzling skills to the test in a thrilling challenge against our Junior School Jigsaw Puzzle team—the reigning SA State School Jigsaw Competition winners!
Eight teams of four international students tackled the same 500-piece puzzle as our junior champs, racing against the clock and each other. Strategy, teamwork, and keen observation were the keys to success—oh, and keeping track of every single piece; even the pieces lost in clothing!
One international team blazed through the challenge, finishing in just under an hour—a truly impressive feat!
Sport
Year 11/12 Basketball
The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ boys represented the school with great sportsmanship, perseverance and positive attitudes at the recent School Sport SA Year 11/12 Basketball Day Carnival at Morphett Vale Stadium. All the boys had a great time and had a few laughs. Both teams were able to win a few games and get around each other with great support and good attitudes!
Year 7/8 Basketball
Our Year 7/8 Boys School Sport SA Basketball Statewide team have recently played in the first round of the competition at Seaford Secondary College.
The boys put the pressure on Seaford making them struggle to get easy baskets while being patient and disciplined in offence. Unfortunately, they were just outmatched physically but played some great team basketball. After the Seaford game, their second game was against Willunga Waldorf which they won! Well done to the team!
Year 9 Volleyball
On Thursday last week our Year 9 Volleyball teams competed in the first round of the Year 9/10 School Sport SA Volleyball Statewide Competition at Immanuel College. Both teams played competitively against Immanuel’s teams. The girls won in two close sets and unfortunately after winning the first set 25-22, the boys team was not able to win the next two sets. The girls team will compete in the state finals at Brighton Secondary School in coming weeks.
Gymnastics Success
A huge congratulations to Year 5 student Victoria on her amazing achievements in Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Victoria started competing at the Sub Junior level of High Performance Rhythmic Gymnastics at the beginning of 2025 and recently competed at the State Championships at the 36ers Arena. She came home with two first places for her Freehand and Ball routines, a second place for her Clubs routine and a fourth place for her Hoop routine, placing her first overall in South Australia!
Her first place means she has qualified for the Australian Gymnastics Championships in July and will be competing at the Gold Coast against the best Sub Junior Rhythmic Gymnasts from across Australia!
We wish her all the luck in the world and can’t wait to hear how she gets on in the Gold Coast! Well Done Victoria! We are all very proud of your successes at HCS!
