It has been another positive and productive period of learning across 桃子视频. Classrooms continue to be busy places where students are engaging with new ideas, developing their skills, and supporting one another to learn and grow. Our staff remain deeply committed to creating learning environments where every student feels supported and challenged to do their best.

Junior School Learning听

In Week 5, Ms E modelled a whiteboard routine designed to strengthen spelling fluency and support our Year 1 and 2 students and to inspire their teachers with new techniques.

They then moved into a paired reading fluency routine, where students practised with decodable texts 鈥 focusing on accuracy, appropriate pace and expressive reading.

It鈥檚 always exciting to see practical strategies in action that make a real difference for our learners!

After School Maths Support is back up and running!

Several students have taken the opportunity to get a little extra support before their assessment piece!

After School Maths Support will run from 3:10pm to 4:00pm Wednesday afternoons in room 804 from Weeks 2-9 this term

Our talented Year 8 Creative Arts students have been busy exploring a range of exciting techniques 鈥 from 2D printing and painting to pastel and ink abstract art, as well as 3D clay modelling.

Throughout the term, students have embraced colour, experimented with different materials, and expressed our school values through their creative ideas and personal style.

We are proud to showcase their incredible work at our upcoming Open Night, with further exhibitions planned throughout the year. We can鈥檛 wait to share their creativity with our community!

In Week 5 we were honoured to welcome the Governor of South Australia to meet with our High School Student Leadership Council.

Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson took the time to speak with our student leaders about their leadership journeys, the challenges they鈥檝e embraced, and the difference they hope to make in our community. She also generously shared insights and advice drawn from her own remarkable career in public service.

An inspiring and memorable experience for our young leaders as they continue to grow in confidence, courage and service.

e were also proud to officially recognise our 2026 Student Representative Council and Area Ambassadors

These student leaders have stepped forward to represent their peers, strengthen student voice, and model our school values across every area of campus.

We look forward to the energy, ideas and leadership they will bring to 2026 鈥 congratulations to you all!

Miss Georgia’s Year 1 class had a go at some amazing science!

Our 鈥淩aincloud in a Jar鈥 experiment is a simple (and magical!) way to show how rain works.

We filled a jar with water (this is our atmosphere), then added a fluffy layer of shaving cream on top to act as the cloud. Using droppers, we carefully added coloured water onto the 鈥渃loud.鈥

As the cloud filled up, it became heavier and heavier 鈥 just like real clouds do when water droplets build up inside them. When it couldn鈥檛 hold any more, the coloured water fell through into the jar鈥 just like rain!

Big kids inspiring little scientists!

There was even more science when our High School students recently stepped into the role of teachers, running hands-on science experiments for our Junior School classes. From bubbling reactions to exciting discoveries, our younger students loved learning from their older peers.

One of the many benefits of being an R鈥12 school is the opportunity for students to learn from and inspire one another, building connections across year levels and sparking curiosity along the way.

Sports Day 2026

GO COOPER

Ms Fletcher’s Year 10 Food and Hospitality class completed their final cook this week for their ‘Convenient Foods’ unit.

Students have been learning about how foods and ingredients have changed over time to make life easier from frozen meals to pre-packaged ingredients.

For their final task, students were challenged to design and create their very own convenient microwave meal! This included developing a recipe, cooking the dish, and even designing an eye-catching package ready for supermarket shelves!

A fantastic way to finish the unit and showcase the students creativity and practical skills

Junior School choir recently hosted a combined choir rehearsal with other local primary schools for the primary schools Festival of Music

Guest conductor Robyn Filmer led the combined choir with energetic vocal warm ups and conducted our song repertoire. We loved the opportunity to make a big sound as we explored our lyrics and part singing!

The choir is very excited for our weekly practice with Mr Martin as we get ready for the Primary Schools Festival of Music show at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in September.

Our Year 6 students had an incredible time at camp a few weeks ago at Woodhouse Adventure Park!

From outdoor challenges to team activities and plenty of laughs along the way, it was the perfect way to kick off their final year of Junior School. A fantastic opportunity for students to build confidence, strengthen friendships and create memories that will last well beyond Year 6.

The Ice Factor Program is back for 2026!

The Hallett cove Huskies are training hard for their interschool competition in Week 10!

Plenty of skill development, peer coaching, resilience building and a stack of fun (sometimes literally!)

Our Year 10 Hair and Beauty class have begun their hair colouring unit.

After learning the theory behind hair colouring, they got to practice the application on each other with conditioner. After a few more practices, they will be able to mix and colour each other鈥檚 hair!

Sneak Peak: Over the next few weeks our High School courts will be getting a much needed facelift!

Keep your eyes out for more updates!

Year 8 Elections

Our Year 8 students have spent the last few weeks learning about how political parties are made and run and how to campaign for change within the school.

They had the opportunity to create their own parties and hold an election, where fellow Year 8s and staff cast their vote for the party who they believed could lead a positive change to our school community!

Results are still pending!

Our International Students have had an action packed start to the term! From diving into their specialist lessons to exploring some of Adelaide鈥檚 best experiences, they鈥檝e been making the most of every opportunity

Highlights from the past few weeks include:

– Catching waves during their surfing lesson
– Meeting new friends at the Welcome Event
– Discovering marine life while snorkelling
– Tasting fresh flavours at the Central Market
– Building connections through peer tutoring
– Meeting high achieving Australians

It鈥檚 been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they learn, explore, and settle into life here. Here鈥檚 to many more adventures ahead!

In Week 5 桃子视频 took eight teams from the Volleyball program to participate in the Southern Schools Year 9/10 Beach Volleyball tournament at Victor Harbor. It was a perfect day, with still conditions making it ideal for good Volleyball!

The Year 10 Boys smashed their competition and finished 1st, only losing one match for the day! The Year 9 and 10 Girls teams were super competitive throughout the day, both finishing inside the top 4! Superstars!

The student’s behaviour was exemplary and lots of fun was had.

Thanks to Mrs. Roach, Mr. Pillay and Esme for their encouragement and support.

Student Spotlight

Year 10 student, Harry, recently played in the Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championships which runs over 5 days. This is Harry鈥檚 3rd year representing SA at the national beach championships. Harry and his volleyball partner last year went undefeated in the pool rounds and competed for a bronze medal, unfortunately just missing out in a 3 set tight contest and finishing 4th overall.

Training this year started early January and he has been training hard with his squad. Harry has a new partner this year who he only started playing with in competition very recently. They competed in the U18 South Australian Beach Volleyball Series Finals last weekend and won their bronze medal match, making great progress as a team. Harry and his partner then competed in the men鈥檚 South Australian Beach Volleyball Series Finals the next day in the 3 Star competition with their good form continuing and finishing 6th overall.

Harry is looking forwarding to seeing how far he and his new partner can go this year on Coolangatta Beach, then dusting himself off and preparing for the upcoming indoor winter season.

NAPLAN

Over the last week and in the coming days, students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will take part in NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN provides schools and families with useful information about student progress in literacy and numeracy, and it helps us reflect on how our teaching programs are supporting student learning. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is only one indicator of progress at a point in time. At 桃子视频, we consider a wide range of evidence when understanding student learning, including classroom assessments, teacher observations and ongoing feedback. We encourage students to simply try their best and approach the assessments with a calm and positive mindset.

It has been a fantastic start to the 2026 school year at 桃子视频, with our community embracing the energy and optimism that comes with a new beginning. Our staggered start allowed our R鈥6 students, Year 7s and Year 12s to settle in smoothly, and there has been a wonderful sense of purpose across the school from the very first day. The Year 12 Summit in Week 1 set a strong tone for our senior students, challenging them to lead with integrity and make the most of every opportunity in their final year. By Week 2, Acquaintance Night and our Welcome Back & High Achievers Assembly brought families together, celebrating achievement while reinforcing our shared commitment to Empower our Community to Thrive.

Across the first three weeks, classrooms have been busy with learning routines being established, relationships strengthened and high expectations set. It has been particularly pleasing to see our students demonstrating our values of Respect, Resilience and Integrity in both the classroom and the yard. Our new Reception students have quickly found their feet, our Year 7 cohort has embraced the move into secondary learning spaces, and our Year 12s have already begun modelling leadership for our younger students.

Together, we are building a school culture where every member of our community is supported to learn, grow and thrive.

Year 11 Yoga

Our Year 11’s were prepping for success on day 1 with a group yoga session in the sun.

Lead by Ms Vandyk and Mr Kenny, the session focused on exercises that release stress and tension and relax the mind as they start their Stage 1 subjects!

Receptions Storytime

As is tradition now, Mr Hall visited our newest students in Week 1 for an extra special story time!

Reading a favourite story of his, Mr Hall sat down with the little ones and shared his love of reading! He also delivered their all important library bags to fill with books on their visits to the Resource Centre.

2026 High Welcome Back Assembly

In Week 2 we gathered for the first time in 2026 as a whole school to celebrate our achievements in 2025, set our intentions for 2026 and welcome all the new faces to our community.

Hosted by our new School Captains Anne and Eve, it was a lovely opportunity to welcome all our new staff and students with already a few fan favourites with our teachers but we hope everyone has felt welcome to our community so far.

The Honourable Alex Dighton, Member for Black, joined us and shared some important words of wisdom for the year ahead. He reminded everyone to be kind our peers, be kind to our families and, most importantly, to be kind to ourselves in the challenges that lay ahead.

It was also a chance for us to congratulate our Class of 2025 high achievers and celebrate our 2025 DUX, Adam Greenwood, who shared wisdom from his Year 12 journey and advice for the Class of 2026.

Continuing the celebrations, we congratulated the Volleyball teams who travelled to the Gold Coast in December and brought home more than a few wins and we introduced our 2026 House Captains who will take our teams to Glory in our upcoming Sports Day!

It was lovely to see our community come together and have so much to celebrate form 2025 and so much to look forward to in 2026!

Aquatics

It’s hard to beat a day like today at the beach!

Surfing for our Year 10’s , snorkelling the reef for Year 11’s and amazing conditions, made for an unforgettable Outdoor Ed Aquatics session!

International

In January we excitedly welcomed the first of two groups of new International students to our school community!

Ms Wright led induction activities for 25 new students from Japan, helping them settle in and get to know the school and each other. At the same time, Mr Godoy and Ms Finch warmly welcomed back our Year 12 International students who stayed in Australia over the Christmas break.

We鈥檙e thrilled to welcome 65 students from ten different countries to our vibrant 桃子视频 community. Your adventure in South Australia starts now, and we can鈥檛 wait for you to experience everything this incredible school has to offer.

From splashing into aquatics, meeting new students at the welcome party, exploring the city on exciting excursions, hearing about the life journey of prominent Australians to diving into your brand new Australian subjects鈥攖here鈥檚 so much ahead for you to enjoy.

We hope you make unforgettable memories, form lifelong friendships, and feel right at home here. Here鈥檚 to an amazing journey and a fantastic year ahead!

Student Spotlight

Malika and Volleyball

Current Year 9 student, Malika wrapped up an outstanding year in volleyball with a major achievement, earning an invitation to the National Performance Program (NPP) Junior National Women鈥檚 Squad Camp in Toowoomba, QLD. Following the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, Malika stayed on to attend the camp from 13鈥18 December 2025, training alongside the nation鈥檚 top young talent.

The camp included high-performance training and education with national age-group head coaches, squad coaches and senior national team coaches. As the first camp in the age-group cycle, this experience plays a key role in preparation for the U18 Asian Championships in 2026 and the U16 and U20 Asian Championships in 2027.

“The camp was an amazing experience. I learnt a lot from it and hope to use the knowledge acquired in future opportunities.”

We are incredibly proud of Malika and wish her every success as she continues her volleyball journey in 2026 and beyond!

Tobyand Lacrosse

Year 12 student Toby started playing lacrosse at 12 years old with Brighton Lacrosse Club after being introduced to the sport by his Canadian PE teacher. After only two years, he was selected for the U15 South Australian State Team and travelled to Perth

At 14, Toby was selected for the U18 State Team and travelled to Melbourne, winning the championship. He has since been part of multiple successful U15 and U18 State tournaments in Adelaide, going back-to-back in titles.

At 16, Toby was honoured to represent Australia as the youngest member of the U20 National Team at the World Championships across Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan, finishing third overall, and was also selected for the Australian U16 team, representing his country for a second time in South Korea.

Drama Night

What a night of creativity and talent!

In Week 3 our Drama Night showcased incredible performances from our Senior Drama students and the C-Theatre after-school group, featuring their original play The Bunyip鈥檚 Paradox, written by our very own Year 12 student, Daniel M.

The audience was treated to a mix of comedy, drama, and heartfelt performances, all bursting with student creativity and flair.

A huge thank you to Ms Jenny Huston for co-directing alongside Year 11 student Isabel M., and to Hunter B. for his fantastic work on lighting and sound 鈥 the show couldn鈥檛 have shone without you!

Bravo to everyone involved 鈥 what a performance!

Trench Warfare

听As part of their World War One Unit, students in Ms Morden and Mr Cooper鈥檚 year nine History classes were involved in a Trench Warfare Simulation game.

This dodgeball style activity was designed to simulate what it was like in the trenches of World War One, which involved using tables to build our “trenches” and chairs to create obstacles in “No Man’s Land”. The aim was to take down the opposing team by crossing over no man’s land and stealing their trench without being shot. Students loved getting outside and into the action of the trenches to learn about the fighting that took place along the Western Front.

Year 12 Graduation

Our Year 12 Graduation in Week 6 was a wonderful celebration of achievement, resilience and growth. It was a proud moment for families, staff and students as we reflected on thirteen years of learning and the incredible journey that has brought our graduates to this milestone. The evening was filled with heartfelt speeches, well-deserved recognition and plenty of smiles as we farewelled the Class of 2025 and wished them every success in the exciting paths ahead.

It was a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, creativity and connection across year levels – with plenty of learning on both sides!

Bike Club

Our students have been busy in Bike Club all year working with Mr Beaglehole and Mr Gregory.

Students have been putting their practical skills to the test by servicing a range of push bikes.

They鈥檝e been:
Checking and adjusting brakes
Tuning derailleurs
Setting bearing tension
Completing general maintenance and safety checks

Bike club not only builds confidence and mechanical understanding, but also teaches problem-solving and real-world technical skills plus all the bikes the students have been working on will be donated to charitable causes!

A huge thank you to @99bikesnoarlunga for their support in helping us set up the tools and equipment needed to make this program possible. We appreciate the help getting out workshop set up and the opportunities it creates for our students!

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the weather and volunteered you’re weekend to a wonderful cause.听

Fantastic Firepit

Celebrating this impressive firepit designed and manufactured by Anne in Mr Beaglehole’s Stage 1 Metal class!

This project evolved from early hand sketches to laser-cut prototypes, then on to profile cutting from Adelaide Profile Services. Anne used her MIG welding skills and designed jigs to fabricate this amazing fire pit in class.

The build required real-world problem solving, precision, and persistence – and the final result speaks for itself. An awesome achievement and a great example of what can happen when creativity meets industry-standard processes. Well done Anne!

Class of 2024 Reunion

Throwback vibes!

A couple of weeks ago we welcomed back our Class of 2024 for their 1 Year Reunion!

Students learned about everything from the ways that DNA technology is used from crimes, to where the wood comes from at Bunnings. Students enjoyed exploring the spaces at Flinders Uni and getting to use the amazing forensic tools available.

Environmentally Responsibility Expo

On Thursday of Week 6, four of our Year 9 Science classes presented their creative solutions to the climate crisis at our first ever ‘Environmental responsibility’ expo.

Students had been working in teams to come up with a creative solution to an environmental issue, and presented their products at an expo. A variety of judges including Year 7 students, leaders and SSOs then voted on their favourites.

Congratulations to Kale, Ezra, and Roxaun for taking away first place for their ‘Carbon Capture Plane’. Second place went to Harry and Mason, with third place going to Hayden, Jett and Kevin.

3 days full of kayaking, hiking, learning about our beautiful landscape and adventure!

Thank you to all the amazing staff who made this trip possible!

International Christmas

Our international students have kicked off the festive season with some Christmas crafts!

They shared traditions from around the world, explored the history and meaning behind different decorations and then got crafty!

The students had a go at making mini beanies and wool wrapped letters – each one as unique as the stories they shared. It was a wonderful morning of learning, laughter and celebrating what makes each culture special.

Presentation Night

Our 2025 Presentation Night was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our amazing student achievements. From academic success to the students who embody our school values, leadership and honour it was truley lovely to see so many students thriving in 2025!

Sport

Volleyball

It’s been a busy last few days for the A.V.S.C teams and the entire Volleyball squad

It started with 鈥淎 Day on The Gold Coast鈥 where students came in early, made and ate breakfast together and prepared their lunch and snacks to prepare them for life on the the Gold Coast in December. They did have the chance to get a bit of volleyball practice in with a few games and refereeing opportunities.

On Monday, everyone headed to the drive to watch the F.I.V.B Beach Volleyball World Championships. Students were able to watch matches close up, get signatures and merchandise and participate in the packed crowd antics cheering on the Australian Teams on Centre Court. Ex Hallett Student, Josh Burrows was one of the referees of this match.

On Wednesday, the Year 7’s and 8’s headed to Victor Harbor to play against a variety of schools in their beach competition. Students played well all day demonstrating plenty of desire, throwing themselves all over the sand – probably inspired by the pro’s on Monday!

Cricket

In Week 6 a group of Year 7, 8 and 9 Students competed in a Super 8 Cricket competition

The students performed really well winning their first game and then competing very strongly against some specialized Cricket Schools.

Lewis M and Logan W dominated with the bat whilst Gemma and Lucas S were the best with the ball. Most pleasingly however, was the effort of all and how they developed their skills throughout the day!

Volleyball Again

We recently took two teams to the year 8 Boys and Girls Volleyball State Knockout Finals at Reynella

The Girls team fought hard in the preliminary rounds and were competitive against the well drilled Heathfield and Brighton teams but just fell short.

The Boys team had similar results, having their chances against Heathfield but unfortunately their serving was too inconsistent to snatch a win.

Both teams played for overall 3rd vs 4th positions and had easy wins to come third overall on the day! Well done to both teams!

Queensland Prep

Last week we revealed the 2025 HCS team banner and t-shirts for the Volleyball Program’s trip to the Gold Coast next week!

Everyone was so exited to see the final banner and t-shirt that will represent our school and teams at the annual AVSC event!

We also announced the captains for the trip to much celebration!

Junior Captains:
Harry Quilliam and Milani Bigg

Senior Captains:
Jedd Quilliam and Karli vandenBrink

Principal’s Update | Term 4, Week 4, 2025 /principals-update-term-4-week-4-2025/ Mon, 03 Nov 2025 02:07:50 +0000 /?p=251500
Year 5/6 Market Day

What a day our Year 5 and 6 students had in Week 9 last term! It was amazing to see all their hard work creating their businesses, making their products and executing their plans in action!

There really was something for everyone with sweet treats, homemade crafts, upcycled homewares and plenty of fun games… although some of our teachers didn’t think they were that fun! Luckily the sun was shining to help them dry out!

The students raised over $2300 for the Junior School through their hard work and creativity and should be incredibly proud of themselves.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to the parents who helped, bake, bead, juice and build along the way, days like this would not be possible without your support!

Festival of Music

When 27 of our students took to the stage at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for the Public Primary Schools Festival of Music Stars on Stage, they shone with confidence and pride.

Our school was also proudly represented by guest artists Mia C and Caitlin S from Year 10, who performed the song ‘My Immortal’ by Evanescence with Caitlin accompanying on grand piano. Their dedication and artistry showcased the incredible range of skills within our school community.

The Primary Schools Festival of Music is an iconic South Australian tradition that has inspired generations. It gives students the chance to experience artistic excellence, embrace cultural diversity, and celebrate social inclusion through the joy of performance.

Each concert features over 1300 Year 5 and 6 students joining voices in a breathtaking massed choir and the evening was truly a spectacular celebration of what public school students can achieve when they come together through music and the arts.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, passion, and brilliance on stage.

Child Studies Carnival

Our Year 12 Child Studies students brough the magic of the carnival to life for our year 1 students last week!

From delicious food and fun games to balloon animals, face painting, handmade decorations, party bags and even a photo booth, it was a day full of laughter, creativity and joy!

Year 12 Ancient Studies

Our Year 12 Ancient Studies students have brought history to life! Over the past few weeks, they鈥檝e been researching and creating incredible artefacts that showcase the strategies, weapons, and stories of ancient warfare.

From detailed dioramas to carefully crafted weapons and historical replicas, each student had fascinating insights to share鈥攁nd we all walked away with a deeper understanding of the art of war in the ancient world.

Zoo Snooze

What an adventure!

In Week 9 our Year 2 students had the ultimate sleepover on the Zoo Snooze! they got to explore after dark, discovered fascinating animal facts, and learnt in the most exciting way possible.

A huge thank you to our amazing staff, parent volunteers, and the Year 12 Child Studies students who joined in to make the night extra special

International Day of Peace

In Week 10 a group of students and leaders gathered to acknowledge the International Day of Peace.

We were joined by the Hallett Cove and Districts Lions Club who, this time last year, helped us erect our Peace Pole. Students from across the school spoke about the history of the Peace Pole project and the International Day of Peace and recited a proverb by Lao Tzu:

If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbours.
If there is to be peace between neighbours,
There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.

听A huge thank you to the Lions club for gifting our Peace Pole and once again joining us for our ceremony.

Year 12 Picnic

To celebrate having just over two weeks of school time left, our Year 12s took a well-earned break to relax in the sunshine with a picnic in the park.

A special moment to celebrate how far they鈥檝e come as they head towards exams and look forward to graduation in November.

2025 Colour Run

What a day we had!

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, supported on the day or just came to watch the colourful chaos! We love our HCS community and we love seeing everyone have the best time!

You raised a whopping $8437 for HCS that will go directly to our playground fund!

On top of money raised and prizes earned, a few fundraisers opted to donate their prizes to some charitable causes! They planted 3 trees with Cardon Neutral, donated 12 meals through OzHarvest and sent $40 to The Great Barrier Reef Foundation to help protect the turtles.

Choreography Night

Congratulations to our 2025 Choreographic Solo Award Winners; Maya, Infinity, Sherree and Ameliah along with our group winners in Years 8 – 12.

The choreographic awards were adjudicated and presented by international dance examiner Mr Jayson Smart and our family audience enjoyed the talent and energy our students brought to the stage.

Vibrant and well-crafted class dances were a highlight and demonstrated the dedication of our dance teachers Jenny Huston and Jade O’Shea who continue to inspire our students with their love for dance. We also thank our student tech crew Arts and Event ambassadors Daniel and Julian for supporting the night.

Gr8 Race

At the end of last term our Year 8’s had a go at The HCS G8 Race!

An Amazing Race style excursion to the Marion Wetlands gave them the opportunity to engage in activities and challenges that required them to develop the key school values, whist building positive relationships with peers and staff.

It was an amazing day and fantastic to see our students engaged and having so much fun out and about

Kindness Club

Bittersweet moments in Kindness Club in Week 1! Our Year 12 leaders ran their very last session with our youngest students on their final Friday at school.

Every week they鈥檝e shown up with games, creativity and huge hearts, and the bonds they鈥檝e built will be remembered long after graduation. This week they taught the little ones how to make stress balls using rice and balloons 鈥 practical, fun and perfectly them!

Thank you to our incredible leaders for your hard work, creativity and commitment to such a wonderful cause. You鈥檝e made kindness cool and left a legacy that will last long after you graduate.

Alex Dighton Visit

A huge thank you to Alex Dighton MP for meeting with our Student Council!

Our Student Leaders and SRC spoke passionately about the need for a new shade sail in the High School 鈥 a space that would provide safety, comfort and connection for students year-round.

Securing this funding would mean so much to our school community, creating a cooler, more inclusive outdoor area for learning, socialising and wellbeing. We’re proud of our students for using their voices to make real change!

Egg-cellent History

Our creative Year 9s were tasked with bringing history to life 鈥 in egg form! As part of their Horrible Histories elective, students chose a historical figure and crafted a diorama that showcased their legacy鈥 without using any names or labels! The challenge? Let the scene tell the story.

From queens to conquerors, inventors to villains 鈥 the results were absolutely egg-cellent

A huge thank you to our panel of judges who embraced their roles with peak dramatic flair!听

Year 12 Staff vs Students

They took on the teachers in their final ever dodgeball showdown鈥 and let鈥檚 just say experience (and questionable tactics) triumphed over youth and enthusiasm!

Better luck next time, Class of 2025 鈥 oh wait鈥

Year 12 Dress Up

Theme: Dress as something that shares the first letter of your name

Execution: Immaculate

Year 12 Goodbye

In week 2 we celebrated our Year 12s with a special breakfast followed by a farewell assembly 鈥 one final chance to laugh, reflect and say goodbye

It鈥檚 hard to sum up all the emotions of a last day: excitement, pride, nostalgia (and maybe a few tears). We鈥檙e so proud of how far you鈥檝e come and can鈥檛 wait to see where life takes you next.

听Congratulations to the Class of 2025 鈥 you鈥檝e left your mark, and you鈥檒l always be part of our school family.

Mini Music Tour

Our jazz group and singers headed out and about and performed for two local primary schools in a mini music tour in Week 2.

Our young audiences delighted seeing our instrumental music and vocal talent and learned how playing in an ensemble is fun and boosts confidence and group skills!

Students were supported by Mr Raf Godoy and Mr Toby Martin and as always it was great to take our music out into the community. Well done to our young musicians!

Year 11 Outdoor Ed

The Year 11 Outdoor & Environmental Education students have spent a fun-filled, action-packed few days exploring the Yorke Peninsula!

Camping at Port Vincent, students cooked their own meals and slept under the stars! The adventure included surfing, sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and even night hikes. A definite highlight was surfing the crystal-clear waters of Berry Bay alongside dolphins

The final day wrapped up with small-boat handling and more paddleboarding, before an eco-walk and beach clean-up 鈥 where a few lucky students were filmed for an upcoming episode of South Aussie with Cosi!

A huge thank you to Ms Fletcher and Ms Chambers for giving up time with their families to make these incredible experiences possible for our HCS students. Sleep well, team 鈥 you鈥檝e earned it!

World Teacher’s Day

In Week 3 we celebrated the incredible teachers and staff who make our 桃子视频 such a vibrant, caring and inspiring place to learn.

Every day, our teachers go above and beyond 鈥 creating engaging lessons, offering encouragement when it鈥檚 needed most, and showing patience, creativity and compassion in everything they do.
Guided by our school values of Respect, Resilience and Integrity, our staff model what it means to be lifelong learners and kind, capable role models. Whether it鈥檚 in the classroom, in the yard, or behind the scenes, every act of care and commitment helps shape a stronger, more connected community.
Today and every day, we say a huge thank you for the energy, dedication and heart you bring to our school. You help our students thrive, grow and shine 鈥 and we鈥檙e so proud to celebrate you this World Teachers鈥 Day!

Well done our Magnificent Martha!

International Program

From learning road safety at the RAA StreetSmart Excursion to stargazing and storytelling on the Outback Camp, our International Students have embraced every moment. From the red dust of the outback to splashing about in the surf, they鈥檝e truly sunk their teeth into Aussie life!

They celebrated International Peace Day by proudly representing their countries and shared their cultures with our Junior School students through the ESL Peer Tutoring Program. Along the way, they joined in the Colour Fun Run, showcased their talents in music performances, enjoyed after school clubs, and even starred in the local TV program South Aussie with Cosi!

These experiences connect cultures, spark ideas, and grow friendships. We鈥檙e so proud of the energy, enthusiasm, and kindness they bring to 桃子视频!

Fleurieu Cup

In Week 9 Hallett Cove took nine teams to Reynella to participate in the Year 7/8 Volleyball Fleurieu Cup. With ten schools participating, it was a hectic and challenging day. A variety of abilities and game styles was good practice for all of our teams.

Congratulations to our Year 8 boys who came first in Division 1, Year 7/8 girls who won Division 2 and to our Year 8 girls winning second in Division 1, losing to the winners by 1 only point!

Thanks to all the staff who helped coach on the day.

AVSC Relay Day

The AVSC Gold Coast Volleyball teams recently participated in their annual Relay Day

The main aim of the event was to build our 鈥渂ig team鈥 spirit, strengthen teamwork, and get everyone moving 鈥 all while having a great time. It also doubled as a fundraiser, with many students significantly reducing the cost of their upcoming trip.

Students ran between 4 and 15km (yes, seriously!) and took on challenges like the Net Crawl, Vertical Jump, Team Carry, Knife and Fork Chocolate Eating, and the hilarious 鈥淔ace the Cookie鈥.

Everyone embraced their team themes with enthusiasm 鈥 and a special shoutout to the Tutu Team, who twirled their way to victory!

  • If you vape you are 3 times more likely to start smoking cigarettes
  • E-cigarettes can contain the same harmful chemicals found in cleaning products, nail polish remover, weed killer and bug spray
  • Most vapes, even if they say they don’t, contain nicotine

Huge thanks to Jake and the Life Ed team for keeping it real and helping us all stay informed!

Sport

Soccer

In Week 3 HCS sent a highly motivated squad to participate in the first round of the Year 9/10 Statewide Knock Out Futsal (Soccer) competition held at Seaford Community/Recreation Centre

The squad was unfortunately plagued by injury, illness and absence on the day of competition which left the bare 5 for a 5-a-side competition – so the team had their work cut out for them right from the beginning.

The boys had an incredibly strong start to the competition beating Aldinga 10-2:

Goal scorers:

Jamie B – 5 goals
Harry S – 4 goals
Naoto I – 1 goal

They then backed it up with another strong performance against Aberfoyle, beating them 9-0:

Goal scorers:

Jamie B – 2 goals
Harry S – 3 goals
Thomas M – 4 goals

While still competitive matches, the boys unfortunately lost their next 3 matches to Seaford – 6-2 (Jamie B – 2 goals), Tatachilla – 6-0 (both ended up advancing to the finals) and Reynella East (3-1: Thomas M – 1 goal) – fatigue definitely being a contributing factor.

After the strong showing in their previous games, the boys knew their final game was not going to be as easy against Cardijn. The boys played a great match and ended on an incredibly positive note, playing their hearts out – the game finishing on a 2-2 draw (Jamie B – 2 goals).

Again, the squad represented 桃子视频 and the Soccer Program in the best possible fashion with excellent sportsmanship, behaviour and displayed a high-quality brand of football throughout all matches.

All players must be congratulated on their achievement and the effort you all put in.

We look forward to an upcoming outdoor 5-a-side competition to be held in Week 6!

Volleyball Championships

Congratulations to our amazing students who have been chosen to represent SA in the Australian Youth Indoor Volleyball Championships. The national championships will be held in Perth in September

Four of these students will travel and compete in Perth and one will train with the squad but not necessarily travel to Perth to compete.

We wish all students the very best for their volleyball competition.

Volleyball

HCS recently competed in the SA Volleyball Schools Cup tournament We entered 13 teams across Years 7 to 12 and teams played at different venues across Adelaide on Thursday, Friday and Sunday against other SA schools.

Well done to all players and coaches that represented 桃子视频. This is the first time many of our students, and some of our coaches, have competed in such a tournament and many, if not all, will have improved on skills and game play awareness.

We had 5 teams make it through to gold medal matches:

Year 8 Girls 1 were undefeated in their pool, won their semi final to play in the gold medal match. The team played a great game but were not able to get the win, coming away with the silver medal.

Year 9 Girls were undefeated through their pool and did not give up a set. Winning their semi put them into the gold medal match. The girls played a strong game and came home with the 2-0 win and gold medal.

Year 12 Girls again were undefeated in their pool and also did not give up a set. Playing a tough semi final and winning 2-2 and by 1 point put them into the gold medal match. They had a tough game and were not able to get the win, 1-2 and coming away with the silver medal.

Year 8 Boys 1 finished first in their pool winning all their games to go through to the semi finals. They won that game 2-1 and played in the gold medal match on Sunday. The boys showed some great skills to come away with the gold medal winning 2-0.

Year 9 Boys Honours were up against the best players in the state and showed they were able to match their skills. They had some tough competition but to their credit, they won 4 out of 5 games to go through to the gold medal match. They started the game off strong winning the first set. Unfortunately they were out played and lost the next 3 sets coming away with the silver.

A huge thank you to the parents and caregivers that drove players to venues supported teams over the 3 days. A special thank you also to our ex-student volunteer coaches and our first time staff coaches.

Athletics

Congratulations to our selected 10-12 year old athletes who competed at the Southern Valley Athletics Trials at Reynella East College in Week 6

Battling some trying weather conditions our students battled for positions to make the team for the Metro Carnival. Many students surprised themselves with medals and high placements after committing themselves to weekly lunchtime training sessions. Our school placed 3rd overall in the Large Schools Competition.

Medaled students:

Carla Schrader- silver in 100m, 200m and high jump.

Year 7 $20 Boss

Our Year 7 students have spent Term 2 focusing in their ‘$20 Boss’ Core Skills unit.

This engaging program allowed students to delve into the world of business, explore key concepts, develop their entrepreneurial skills by creating their own market stalls and to critically reflect on their decision making.

Throughout the unit, students were encouraged to think creatively and sustainably, crafting products or services with a budget of no more than $20. The challenge sparked enthusiasm and innovation, and we hope you loved hearing about their exciting ideas at home!

The project recently culminated in ‘Market Day’ – an opportunity for students to present their learning and showcase their products and ideas. Students were given ‘Cove Cash’ to spend at businesses and ‘Investor Tokens’ to demonstrate which businesses they would like to invest in.

Students had a great day engaging with each others businesses and investing their Cove Cash.

Science and Engineering Challenge听

In Week 8, a group of 23 students represented HCS at the Science and Engineering Challenge at Flinders University.

Competing against seven other schools, they tackled real-world STEM challenges 鈥 from building bridges and water turbines to designing sustainable homes and decoding fibre optic messages. Our 85g bridge held an impressive 3.5 kg, and students showed creativity, teamwork and resilience in every task.

While we placed seventh overall, the learning, laughter, and problem-solving made it a fantastic experience.

Dreaming of Graduation

In Week 9 our Year 12 students were Dreaming of Graduation as they celebrated the mid point of their Year 12 journey.

With just less than half of their final year of school left they looked back at their time at HCS and wrote thank you cards to those staff and friends that have helped them along the way.

They also had the opportunity to set half year resolutions, goals that will help see them through to October and beyond as they focus on the home stretch. The countdown begins!

100 Days of School

While the Year 12鈥檚 were looking to the end, our Receptions were celebrating their beginning! Happy 100 days of school!

It feels like only yesterday our youngest students stepped into the classroom with plenty of excitement and a little bit of nerves, but look at them now – 100 days smarter, stronger and braver!

In Week 10 we celebrated all the amazing things they have accomplished, from mastering new skills to making new friends! Here’s to every challenge faced, every lesson learned and every milestone achieved!

Well done Receptions! Keep on growing!

Staff vs Students听

In Week 10 we held our second Staff vs Students of the year!

After a narrow defeat in the first round, the staff were back with a point to prove 鈥 and this time, they brought the brainpower!

In an intense quiz showdown, both teams gave it their all, but the staff claimed victory and evened the score 1鈥1!

Well played to our clever students and determined staff 鈥 bring on Round 3!

HCS Careers Expo

In Week 1 of this term our High School students were lucky enough to explore our annual HCS Careers Expo.

We were joined by over 20 universities, training organisations, apprenticeship/work providers, emergency services and even the army to answer every question our students had about possible career pathways.

It was fantastic to see so many students already thinking about what their futures hold and we are beyond proud that we get to prepare them for the journey!

Middle School Assembly

Also in Week 1 our Middle School celebrated the end of Semester 1 with Academic Achievement awards and recognition to students who consistently demonstrate our school values

听Well done to all our amazing winners!

ThinkUKnow

In Week 2, our Junior School students learnt all about staying safe online from a police officer with the ‘ThinkUKnow’ program.

The program is delivered by State and Territory police to build positive engagement between children, young people and police, while equipping students with the knowledge and skills to be able to take actionable steps to maintain their safety at all times.

The officer shared resources that encourage critical thinking and learnings to prevent harm, to identify safe or unsafe situations online and know when and how to seek help.

Library Bags

As is now tradition, Mr Leverenz greeted our newest and youngest students with a very special story time!

It was great opportunity to meet the new students and deliver their library bags to fill with books on their Resource Centre visits!

Hip Hop

Last week we were joined once again by听 Kulta Rahluwalia, a very local hip hop artist who visited HCS earlier in the year and held a workshop on the art of hip hop.

Students this time got to see him doing what he does best as he put on an incredible show of live music and lyrics. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to see someone local doing something they are passionate about and sharing it with their community.

Senior School Assembly

Last week it was our Senior School’s turn to recognise and celebrate the amazing achievements of our students in Semester 1. We awarded Academic Achievement awards and values recognition awards to those students who consistently demonstrate our school values.

听Well done to all our amazing winners!

International

As Term 2 came to a close at 桃子视频, we celebrated the incredible experiences and achievements of our amazing international students!

Early in the term, students stepped out of their comfort zones (and into their hiking boots!) for an unforgettable overnight bushwalking camp. Surrounded by nature and kangaroos, they built resilience, friendships, and lifelong memories under the stars.

We also came together for a heartfelt farewell shared lunch鈥攚here delicious food and warm laughter flowed in every direction.

In the final week, we recognised all their hard work with certificates and school reports 鈥 a proud moment to highlight each student鈥檚 progress and dedication to their time in Australia.

We鈥檙e so proud of everything our international students have achieved this term. You鈥檝e truly enriched our school with your energy, culture, and spirit.

For the 40 students leaving, enjoy your trip home and settling back into a new school year and family life! We’ll miss you!

This term we鈥檙e thrilled to welcome 16 bright and adventurous students from Korea as part of our Korean Study Tour! They鈥檝e officially settled into their new homes and wasted no time diving into life in Australia!

Their trip began with a special touch of culture 鈥 creating Aboriginal dot paintings on boomerangs, a beautiful way to connect with Indigenous art and storytelling. They explored Aussie school life during a guided site tour, met their wonderful buddies, and have already started making lasting friendships. A highlight? AFL lessons! Plenty of kicks, laughs, and learning something totally new.

To wrap it all up, the students were warmly introduced at our Senior School Assembly, where they were greeted with cheers and smiles. Their Tour Coordinator even stopped by to check in and celebrate their journey so far.

Sport

Year 7/8 Boys AFL

In Term 2 HCS entered a Year 7/8 Boys Football team in the School Sport SA Statewide competition. They played in the first round of the competition at Happy Valley Footy Club Oval against Morialta and Aberfoyle Park High Schools.

In their first game against Morialta, the team hit the front early scoring 2-6 to 0-0 in the first quarter and had a great third quarter scoring 4-2 to 0-0. They finished the game off winning 51-19!

Their second game was against Aberfoyle and even though the boys had a slow start, at half time scores were 1-3 to 2-0! They held Aberfoyle to 4 points in the second half of the game, only finishing 2 goals behind. Final scores 2-4 16 to 4-4 28.

Thank you to Danyle Pearce for bringing his football experience and for supporting the team. Well done to the team and coaches

Year 11/12 Volleyball

HCS also took two year 11/12 teams to Reynella East to participate in the Fleurieu Cup Volleyball Challenge last term.

A total of 12 boys teams and 12 girls teams battled it out all day with our boys finishing a close second and our girls being the overall winners – undefeated for the day!

Thank you to Mrs. Williams for giving up her time and to the Year 10 boys who filled in and played against some strong opposition.

Year 7-10 Netball

In Week 2 a group of Year 7-10 girls travelled down to Victor Harbor to compete in a netball day carnival.

听Both the 7/8 and 9/10 teams played well with a few close matches but everyone enjoyed a great day of netball in the winter sunshine!

New HCS Scarf

What a stylish (and cosy!) bunch of students!

Earlier this year, the SRC suggested adding a 桃子视频 scarf to our uniform鈥攁nd we listened!

After gathering feedback from students and staff, the SRC selected the final design, and we鈥檙e excited to announce that the scarves have officially arrived at HCS!

Available to purchase now from the Finance Office, they’re an excellent way to keep those frosty winter breezes at bay – especially when paired with our matching beanie!

SALA Art Exhibition and Competition

On Wednesday 13 August, 桃子视频, in conjunction with SALA Festival, will be opening it’s doors for an evening of art and creativity for our annual Art Exhibition and Competition.

This years theme is ‘Dream Life’ and the inspiration is limitless, if you can dream it, you can create it!

Artwork is currently being produced and collected from students of every age at HCS, so the evening promises to be a kaleidoscope of medium, colour and talent.

As always, awards will be given for the most creative piece in every age group!

Dream Big Excursion

In week 3 our Year 9 – 12 drama students ventured out to the Festival Theatre’s Dream Big production ‘A Simple Space’ presented by the physical theatre company Gravity and Other Myths.

Students loved the interactive and risk taking performance of acrobatics, body percussion and dramatic competition and enjoyed being a part of a festival that celebrated dreaming big!

Dance Studio

Our new and improved dance studio was also reveiled earlier in the term!

Updated with a new professional grade Tarkett floor and a fresh coat of black paint, our students have loved working in the new studio, gearing up with rehearsals for thier upcoming Arts Showcase!

Alex Dighton Visit

In Week 4 our High School SRC students were today joined by Alex Dighton MP who spoke to the students about the demands, challenges, and successes of being a leader and representative of others.

He also have guidance on how to achieve success for a particular student driven campaign that the Student Representative Council have been working on.

Thank you Alex!

Reconciliation Week听

Week 5 saw us celebrating Reconciliation Week with a beautiful morning tea for our students, featuring traditional damper, native fruit jams, and bush teas.

It was heartwarming to see students come together, enjoy the flavours, and engage meaningfully in the spirit of reconciliation. A lovely reminder of the importance of respect, connection, and culture.

Year 12 Mambray Creek Camp

While the rest of Adelaide was dodging the weather in Week 5, our Year 12 Outdoor Ed students headed north to escape the chaos in the beautiful Mount Remarkable National Park.

After heading out through the dust storms, the weather cleared up as they set up their campsite and got stuck into their first hike, a few wildlife close encounters and campfire fun.

The next day the group set off to climb Mount Remarkable, a challenging 15km hike that lead them though some stunning scenery, even if it was a little chilly! It took the group only about 4 hours to summit and make it back to Melrose in one piece! Hot chips were a very worthy reward for their hard work!

After another cosy night round the campfire roasting marshmallows and telling a few spooky tales, they headed home with tired legs and stories to tell.

Reception Assembly听

In Week 5 our littlest students lead our Junior School assembly for the very first time and what a magnificent job they did!

After a few comforting words for the audience (“I love you mum!”), they stood and lead the National Anthem, told us all about what they had been learning and taught us a new song all about being unique!听

Transition Science

At the end of Week 5 Ms Dopson and Miss Hughes took the mid-year Reception transition children up to the science labs to do some science investigations and mini experiments.

They made mini volcanoes, used microscopes, discovered which objects sink and float and then visited the marine lab to see if they could spot Nemo!

Our budding mini scientists had an amazing time in the big kids science labs!

Hip Hop Workshop

In Week 6, a group of high school students were joined by Kultar Ahluwalia, a very local hip hop artist, who ran a workshop on the art of Hip Hop.

The students had a go at creating beats and adding their own lyrics before performing their creations in front of the group.

It was a huge opportunity to build confidence, connection and identity.

Year 12 Pop Up Cafe

Also in Week 6, our Year 12 Food and Hospitality students presented their 2025 pop-up cafe, Cove & Coffee, to a group of very hungry staff as part of their major group assessment.

The students spent time learning the art of coffee and curating a special menu suitable for takeaway in preparation for the event and boy did they deliver!

They were put to the test with all hot food and drinks made to order but service and standards were outstanding! There was always a queue of eager staff and I dare say we have some budding cafe connoisseurs in our midst!

Arts Tour

At the end of Week 6, Arts students were getting in some last minute rehearsals as they took their upcoming Arts Showcase performances on tour! They had the best time performing dance, drama and music for Sheidow Park and Hallett Cove East Primary School students and some of our students were delighted to visit their former schools and give back to our wider community!

Alex Dighton Comes Back

In Week 7, As part of the Year 8 civics and citizenship unit, students heard from the local member for Black, Alex Dighton. Alex told them all about the levels of government and the importance of elections in Australia. Alex talked through some campaign strategies and the tools to help run a successful campaign. The students will use this knowledge to create their own campaigns and run a school election.

Thanks for visiting Alex!

Open Parachute

In our Junior School in Week 7, we were joined by Adelaide Crows player Reilly O鈥橞rien for the Adelaide Crows Foundation Open Parachute Mental Health Program.

Delivered to Year 2-6 students the Open Parachute Program is a cutting-edge well-being program aimed at upskilling students, parents and teachers through peer role-modelling, which is clinically proven to help students develop resilience. Students were engaged in the program and came away with resources to help them build resilience in life.

2025 Arts Showcase

Last Thursday was the night of nights for our Arts students as they took to the stage to show off their amazing talents in the 2025 Arts Showcase. There was something for everyone with our HCS band, Junior and High School dances, Guitar Ensemble, choirs and pieces from our C-Theatre group.

听With an audience of up to 450 guests and 244 students participating in our transformed gym venue, our Arts students have amazing talent and really stepped up for their audience last night. They inspire us all to be brave, to push through challenges and to be team players.

听A huge thank you to all the staff involved in running the event and to the parents for always supporting our students.

International

This term, we鈥檝e had the pleasure of welcoming international students from Brazil, France, Germany, and Japan! To kick off their Aussie adventure, they got up close with our incredible native wildlife at the local wildlife park鈥攆eeding and patting the furry locals.

The students then soaked in the stunning coastal views at The Bluff, followed by an exploration of the charming township of Victor Harbor and, of course, what better way to wrap up a day of sightseeing than the classic fish and chips feast?

听Our international students also recently put their puzzling skills to the test in a thrilling challenge against our Junior School Jigsaw Puzzle team鈥攖he reigning SA State School Jigsaw Competition winners!

Eight teams of four international students tackled the same 500-piece puzzle as our junior champs, racing against the clock and each other. Strategy, teamwork, and keen observation were the keys to success鈥攐h, and keeping track of every single piece; even the pieces lost in clothing!

One international team blazed through the challenge, finishing in just under an hour鈥攁 truly impressive feat!

Sport

Year 11/12 Basketball

The 桃子视频 boys represented the school with great sportsmanship, perseverance and positive attitudes at the recent School Sport SA Year 11/12 Basketball Day Carnival at Morphett Vale Stadium. All the boys had a great time and had a few laughs. Both teams were able to win a few games and get around each other with great support and good attitudes!

Year 7/8 Basketball

Our Year 7/8 Boys School Sport SA Basketball Statewide team have recently played in the first round of the competition at Seaford Secondary College.

The boys put the pressure on Seaford making them struggle to get easy baskets while being patient and disciplined in offence. Unfortunately, they were just outmatched physically but played some great team basketball. After the Seaford game, their second game was against Willunga Waldorf which they won! Well done to the team!

Year 9 Volleyball

On Thursday last week our Year 9 Volleyball teams competed in the first round of the Year 9/10 School Sport SA Volleyball Statewide Competition at Immanuel College. Both teams played competitively against Immanuel’s teams. The girls won in two close sets and unfortunately after winning the first set 25-22, the boys team was not able to win the next two sets. The girls team will compete in the state finals at Brighton Secondary School in coming weeks.

Gymnastics Success

A huge congratulations to Year 5 student Victoria on her amazing achievements in Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Victoria started competing at the Sub Junior level of High Performance Rhythmic Gymnastics at the beginning of 2025 and recently competed at the State Championships at the 36ers Arena. She came home with two first places for her Freehand and Ball routines, a second place for her Clubs routine and a fourth place for her Hoop routine, placing her first overall in South Australia!

Her first place means she has qualified for the Australian Gymnastics Championships in July and will be competing at the Gold Coast against the best Sub Junior Rhythmic Gymnasts from across Australia!

We wish her all the luck in the world and can’t wait to hear how she gets on in the Gold Coast! Well Done Victoria! We are all very proud of your successes at HCS!

Harmony Week

Harmony Day is celebrated annually in March and is also known as the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It鈥檚 a day to recognise Australia鈥檚 cultural diversity and the benefits it brings to the community!

What a wonderful week we had recognising and celebrating Harmony Day. Many classes began Harmony Week with fun activities and starting conversations around the meaning of Harmony Day.

Thursday was a highlight, with Junior School students wearing orange or traditional dress and supporting the cause by purchasing all of our wonderful orange goodies!

In our High School we wore orange ribbons and had meaningful conversations in Pastoral Care about our range of diverse backgrounds at HCS and how it improves school culture.

Also, a huge thank you to the incredible Global Guru international students for visiting our Junior School Japanese on Harmony Day also. Our students were thrilled to participate in engaging intercultural activities, including creating beautiful origami figures, learning from insightful presentations about Japan, and enjoying the opportunity to chat with the Japanese students.

School Clubs

In Week 9 we had our annual Clubs Expo! With so many clubs to choose from in 2025 our students are bound to find something they’ll love! They can share their skills with others or learn something completely new!

Check out the posters around school or get in touch with the club teacher for more information!

Year 9 Drama

Also in Week 9 the Year 9 Drama Class performed a series of short plays acted and designed by the students with students supporting each other with lighting and sound in additional tech roles.

Performers brought to life their scripts from page to stage with dramatic action and simple but effective set designs. They enjoyed working with costumes and using effective props to tell their stories. The audience of student peers enjoyed the half hour of well-rehearsed dramatic performance.

We’re looking forward to more drama performances in our upcoming Arts Showcase in June!

Child Studies Nature Play

Year 12 Child Studies students put their learning into action teaming up with Ms Saffin’s Year 1 class for a fun filled nature play session.

The Year 12 students have been exploring the many benefits of outdoor play and designed all the activities themselves. There were magic wands, mud pies, potions and bug hotels made but more importantly there were smiles and hands-on learning all round!

Year 7 Art

Ms d’Lima’s Year 7 Creative Arts class have been busy making split portraits using acrylic on canvas as an exploration of personal identity. Students had fun experimenting with colours, shapes and texture. Some of these artworks may appear in our exhibitions later in the year. We look forward to seeing more to come.

Kindness Club

At the end of last term we launched the Kindness Club, the brain child of our 2025 Student Captains, Karli and Jedd.

Kindness Club is open to everyone and Karli and Jedd have tonnes of activities planned to help spread kindness! In Week 9 students started off by drawing beautiful self portraits an in Week 10 they completed them by writing down their kindness goals for 2025.

The big goal of the club in 2025 is to create a flower garden to grow beautiful flowers to be picked and given to people who might need a spot of extra kindness in their day. They also painted rocks to decorate the flower garden they are planning on creating to spread a little kindness across campus.

Please get in touch with our Head of Junior School Liz vandenBrink if you would like to support the Kindness Garden in 2025.

Kev and Quinn

Quinn the Quokka and Kev the Koala have made their official debut! Teaching our Year 6 students about the art of Rap was a great introduction the dynamic duo and the students loved trying something new and getting out of their comfort zone! Watch the video 听

Little Big Kids

Our Little Big Kids Playgroup runs every week with a variety of fun activities following different themes.

A recent theme was “Dinosaurs” and the children had a great time playing with our dinosaur sensory tray, making dino tails, counting out spinosaurus spikes and getting messy in the dinoscape!!

Canapes

In the last week of term staff were treated to canap茅s by the Year 11 Food and Hospitality students as part of their assignment.

What a yummy selection and fantastic presentation there was indeed!

Staff Vs Students

Well…the results are in and in the first Staff vs Students of 2025… the STUDENTS came out victorious!!

Students can enjoy the win for now, but the staff are a little salty about destroying their winning streak so the students better watch out next term, they’ll be bringing fighting spirit!!

Staff PD

Usually on Tuesdays, our staff use the extra time after the students leave early for professional development but the last Tuesday of the term is always saved for a little bit of educational fun!

Mr Wall started the afternoon with an education session on how to throw a boomerang. Some of us managed to get it to come back… some of us need a little more practice!

In the second half of the afternoon we got a little bit competitive seeing which team could build the longest bridge and tallest tower using only fettuccini and masking tape! Some groups took it very seriously indeed!

Anzac Day

At the end of the term we were visited Captain Matthew Zovi from the Australian Defence Force to talk to our students about the history of Anzac Day and why we remember it. Students loved hearing the stories of the soldiers, answering questions and sharing their own stories.

On Anzac Day, School Captains Jedd and Karli represented the school community at the Cove ANZAC Dawn Service. They proudly read the poem In Flanders Fields, before respectfully laying a wreath on behalf of 桃子视频 R-12.

Heidi in Japan

Over the April school holidays, our Year 10 student Heidi embarked on an incredible journey to Japan as part of the prestigious Mishima Scholarship Program! She joined six other students from local schools, and together they headed on the adventure of a life time!

The adventure began with lunch in bustling Tokyo before they hopped on a scenic train ride to Mishima Station. Upon arrival, each student was greeted by their local buddy and homestay family, ready to immerse themselves in Japanese culture.

Heidi attended classes at the school, helped her host family cook traditional Japanese food at home, visited Mt Fuji, Disneyland and a whole host of other amazing places and sites across Japan. What an experience!

Pupil Free Day

On the Pupil Free Day at the start of Term 2 a group of SSO’s headed down to the Edwardstown warehouses to volunteer their time and helping the Foodbank team to pack meal packs, sort through donations and tidy the warehouse.

Foodbank SA and NT not only support the 282,000 households in SA and NT who struggle to put food on their table but also school breakfast clubs across SA and NT, including our own.

We wanted to thank them for all their hard work in making sure our students always have full tummies in the morning as well as support them in their vision to end hunger in SA and NT.听

Mid-Year Receptions

In Week 1 this term our mid-year receptions joined us for their first transition day! The children (and parents!) were very brave on their first day of big school jumping straight into learning and play in our Early Years Centre.

They even had a quick spy on a current Reception class, a good example of what’s to come in July!听

Year 9 Tech

Mr Sellar and Mr Beaglehole’s Year 9 Materials Solutions class prepared early for Mother’s Day all while getting to know the laser and vinyl cutters.

Learning how to make things for other people is a key part of learning and the class sold these at the Junior School Mother’s Day stall!

Year 7 Camp

What an amazing time our Year 7 campers had in Port Hughes!

The activities were so much fun and the weather spectacular! So many students got to try things for the first time and have made some amazing memories and friendships!

Child Studies Year 1 Picnic

In Week 2 Ms Fletchers Year 11 Child Studies put their chefs hats on and their knowledge of child nutrition into action designed and preparing healthy and delicious snack for Ms Saffin’s Year 1 class!

From colourful fruit kebabs and strawberry smoothies to cheesy pizza pinwheels, the Year 11’s served up a fun and tasty learning experience for their younger peers.

Learning has never looked (and tasted) so yummy!

Friday Footy

Last Friday morning everyone was getting excited for the weekends big game with our Showdown Kickaround! The High School Coffee Club provided the caffeine for parents while the students enjoyed practicing their shots and arguing about who was going to take the glory!

P.A.R.T.Y Program

The Prevent Alcohol & Risk-related Trauma in Youth Program (P.A.R.T.Y.) is an innovative program that draws on the experiences of trauma professionals and trauma survivors to educate young people, by showing them what can happen when they make a risky decision.

Last week a group of Year 11 and 12 students visited Flinders Medical Centre to take part in the P.A.R.T.Y Program and to learn about experiences of trauma and what can be done to reduce incidences in young people.

They had hands on experiences in what it’s like being a trauma doctor, nurse, physio and OT, as well as learning about organ donation and hearing personal stories.

It was a confronting day, but all students came away saying what a valuable experience it was.

Try-a-Trade

A group of Year 10 students have spent the last two Monday’s participating in the onsite PEER Try-a-Trade program.

They dove head first into learning about what is required to become an electrician and a plumber and learned valuable information about entering the trade industry.

Puzzle Competition

A few weeks ago, a team of 4 students represented our school at the inaugural Interschool Jigsaw Competition鈥. And we won!

The students completed their puzzle in record time and have since been invited to participate in the national competition later in the year! Well done team!

Careers Day Dress Up

How wonderful it was to see our students dressed for success last week!

We had zoo keepers and neurosurgeons, dancers and singers, soccer players, footy players and even superheroes! It seems we’re quite inspiring as we had plenty of teachers! Some quite specific in our High School with Year 12 students Mary, Mimi and Tahlia coming dressed as the two Ms Fletchers and Ms Bone. One of our littlest teachers of the day even brought her own roll to mark attendance!

It was amazing to see the creativity and ambition in our students and we can鈥檛 wait to see what the future holds for them!

IDAHOBIT

Last week we celebrated IDAHOBIT!

听Our High School students showed their support, raising nearly $200 for the Minus 18 Foundation, with music, bracelet making, a jumble sale, a glorious bake sale and yummy hot chocolates!听

National Walk Safely to School

On Friday our Junior School students joined in with National Walk Safely to School Day!

Meeting at Pavana Reserve, they shared a pancake breakfast and ran wild on the playground before heading to school all together.

HCS Cove Cup

Last Friday we held our second annual interschool Cove Cup! Our year 5/6 students were joined by students from Hallett Cove East, Hallett Cove South and Sheidow Park Primary for a full day of soccer!

The students played 7-a-side games and only got a little wet throughout the day! Mr Vanstone鈥檚 class blessed the airwaves all day with their radio show commentating on the action and there were the classic HCS dance parties so there was something for everyone! After a full day of action 鈥楾he Premiers鈥 from Hallett Cove East won the boys competition and the HCS 鈥楥heetahs鈥 brought home a win for the girls!

Biggest Morning Tea

On Friday staff at HCS celebrated the Biggest Morning Tea.

Most of us at one point or another have been affected by cancer, whether it be family friends or even ourselves, so we wanted to give a little back. Those who participated, all donated a plate to share and bought raffle tickets for some amazing prizes donated by staff and some of our amazing suppliers. Students even got in on the action by donating their amazing looking cupcakes to the cause!听

1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with some form of cancer before the age of 85 and the Cancer Council want to change that. The Biggest Morning tea is a great way for communities to get involved and raise funds to help support a cancer free future. 听Money raised for the Cancer Council goes directly into research, support for the 150,000 Australians diagnosed every year and world-leading prevention campaigns.

International

It has been a busy few week for our international students! They have celebrated formals, been on camps and excursions, said goodbye to some and welcomed others.

In Week 9 last term, we welcomed a study tour from Japan. The students and their teacher, experienced homestays in our local community (a big thank you to our hosts) and their visit included ESL lessons, excursions, Aussie sports, and unique experiences with Indigenous and Australian food.

The new Global Gurus program continued to make an impact, with presentations in Ms. Portlock’s primary school classroom. At lunchtime, these international students teamed up with junior students in the schoolyard to enjoy activities like origami and chats.

They have also had the opportunity to swim with dolphins, play futsal, join the Outdoor Ed kayaking adventure and explore the beautiful south east of our state.

On a recent 4 day camp, they had a quick stop at Tailem Bend to watch the Porsches on the track and then into Naracoorte to participate in two workshops – one about the local megafauna & the other focused on the caves. Later in the day the bats took off and students were amazed by this little animal鈥檚 habitat and survival!

They also got to the breathtaking Umpherston Sinkhole, and a quick snapshot at the Blue Lake and no road trip is complete without a classic fish 鈥榥 chips lunch. They got to explore various Naracoorte caves and sinkholes with the highlight being a fossil bed made of Australia’s ancient megafauna and the final stop was the enchanting 160 year old, 36 stand, Glencoe Woolshed that was able to shear 2,000 sheep per day by hand!

Most recently, most of our Senior School international students had an inspiring day at South Australia鈥檚 largest Careers & Employment Expo at the Adelaide Showgrounds. After soaking in valuable insights and networking with industry professionals, the students continued their adventure with a well-earned lunch and exploration at the Central Markets and a busy Rundle Mall a perfect way to experience Adelaide鈥檚 diverse food scene and culture.

We鈥檙e so proud of the vibrant, multicultural environment at our school and the incredible opportunities it brings for all our students!

Sport

National Beach Volleyball

In March two 桃子视频 students Malika Steytler and Harry Quilliam represented South Australia at the U14 and U16 (respectively) National Beach Volleyball Competition, held in Coolangatta, Queensland.

Malika, current Year 8 Volleyball Focus Class student, participated in a four’s competition in the U14 age group. This is her second state representation, being selected for the U14 Indoor 6-a-side team last year. Her team played a good brand of volleyball ended up unfortunately going down 17-15 to a Victoria team.

Malika is quite proud of herself and her team for achieving their silver medal and their quality of volleyball. Currently playing for South, she enjoys her volleyball very much and wishes to pursue it in the American College system after her time at HCS comes to its conclusion.

Harry, current Year 9 Volleyball Focus Class student, participated in a pair’s competition – and was 1 of 4 pairs to represent the state. This was Harry’s second time representing SA at Beach Volleyball. Harry and his team-mate were the highest placing SA team for his age group and went undefeated up until the Semi-Final. Whilst feeling a little disappointed initially, Harry came away feeling very positive about the overall experience and his performance in the tournament.

To add to his achievement, Harry has recently been selected to represent South Australia again, in the U16 State Schoolboys competition which will be held in Adelaide later in the year. Like Malika, he also plays his club volleyball for South and thoroughly enjoys participating in the sport whenever he gets the opportunity.

Congratulations to you both, you should be pleased with your achievements! You are fantastic ambassadors of the HCS Volleyball Program and should know that the school and the program are incredibly proud of you. We wish you all the very best of success with your current and future pursuits in the sport.

– Mr Kenny, on behalf of the whole HCS Volleyball Program

Basketball

In Week 9 last term, two Year 10-12 boys 3v3 basketball teams were entered in the School Sport SA Day Carnival held at the State Basketball Centre in Wayville. The players had a great day improving their skills against some tough competition.

Volleyball Carnival

On the last day of Term 1 our Year 7 & 8 volleyballers took part in a HCS challenge day.

This is a great day for students to put the skills they have been practicing throughout the term into action and to have a little bit of fun to finish off a long term.

International Aquatics

In Week 4 our International students had an idyllic day at Port Noarlunga for their first aquatics lesson! They had an amazing experience with a mix of activities; snorkeling among the reefs, surfing the waves, and fishing from the jetty all sound like memorable adventures!

The vibrant turquoise water and pristine white sand must have made it even more special, especially when followed by hot chips and gravy for lunch!

BMX Balance Program

鈥淚t was another rad session with the crew from 桃子视频! They all bring such a good energy to the program and have done really well in these initial weeks with working within the ethos of the Balance Program.

We rode at Christies beach skate park today where everyone took on some individual challenges, some only wanting some tips / guidance and others wanting more support. A highlight was seeing one of the students drop into the quarter pipe after initially saying “I CANNOT do that and won’t”. He took the time to chill and listened to mentors tips and tricks then gave it a shot!

Another highlight was a student spending a great deal of the session in the bowl which is something he stated he did not think he could do鈥 鈥 Lighthouse Youth Projects Inc. Team

Week 5 was a busy week as we celebrated Clean Up Australia Day!

Our students collected rubbish from their classrooms and around the yard in their Pastoral Care class and weighed it in to get a head start on House Points for next weeks Sports Day!

We finished off Week 5 with our Year 6 Camp!

The Junior School Seniors all headed off to Woodhouse for 3 days of amazing activities!

Everyone had so much fun getting messy and making memories that will no doubt last a lifetime!

In Week 6, our international students had the incredible experience of attending the Adelaide Fringe Kaurna Day 2025!

It was an opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture.

First Day of the Year

We kicked off the year with an amazing first day!

A day of firsts for our Receptions and Year 7’s while it was our Year 12’s last first day!

We had programs for our Year 7’s to get comfortable with High School and for our Year 12’s to learn about how to make the most of their last year of school. We celebrated firsts and lasts together with a shared lunch.

Our Junior School students, especially our smallest, took the time getting to know each other and their new teachers and had fun telling everyone about their amazing summer holidays!

Our Year 12 Leader Ms Finch hosted the first annually Alumni Forum which invited HCS Alumni to chair a panel and answer questions from our Year 12鈥檚 on everything from surviving Year 12 to how to navigate life after school. The panel members varied in age and study or occupation so it was an amazing opportunity for our Year 12鈥檚 to get firsthand information and to get a feel for all the opportunity鈥檚 that await them!

Here’s to another great year to come at HCS!

Reading with the Little Ones

As is tradition now, Mr Hall, joined by Mr Leverenz this year, visited our newest students today for an extra special story time!

Reading stories hand picked by their own children (who also happened to start school for the first time this week!) they sat down with the little ones and shared their love of reading! They also delivered the all important library bags to fill with books on their Resource Centre visits.

Check out the story time !

Meeting Tom Leverenz

We also had the opportunity to meet our new Deputy Principal, Mr Tom Leverenz.

Tom comes to us with extensive executive leadership in other large, R-12 sites, and is excited to continue to get to know the 桃子视频 community.听

If you see him out and about, feel free to stop and introduce yourself!

Watch him introduce himself

Concert at The Cove听

Over the weekend students and staff performed at ‘Concert at the Cove’ presented by the City of Marion on the picturesque foreshore at Hallett Cove Beach.

The sun was shining while our high school band ‘Colour of Waves’ performed with students Mia Cawte, Ben Castle, Karl Schiller and teachers Raf Godoy, Toby Martin and John Sellar.

听We look forward to more events where we can represent our school by showcasing our fabulous music learning.

International Welcome

In Week 3 we welcomed our amazing international students with a celebration packed with true Aussie experiences!

Students had a blast meeting adorable Aussie animals, enjoying a heartfelt Welcome to Country ceremony, learning about water safety, and discovering our emergency services. The day was filled with vibrant stalls offering something for everyone and to top it all off, we shared a delicious lunch together!

听Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event unforgettable. Here’s to new friendships, exciting adventures, and a wonderful start to your journey in Australia!

Science is Cool

Mr Kowalick’s Year 7 Science class tried to keep their cool in the heat in Week 3 by (very carefully!) observing the reactions and effects of dry ice!

2025 Student Leaders

We’re so excited to see what this years Student Leaders, Karli and Jedd, have in store to make positive change and leave their mark at HCS.

Take a look at what they have planned .

Lighthouse Youth Project听

The Lighthouse Youth BMX HCS Crew were out and about In Week 3 in their first offsite session which was AWESOME!

听The mentors had this to say:

“It was so good to see everyone supporting each other when trying new tasks and skills that were a little out of their comfort zone. Skill development within only one session has been fantastic and congratulations to Jack for getting out of his shell and riding the pump track that he said he couldn’t. The highlight of the session was the group dynamics, positivity and ability to get around and support each other!”

International Urimbirra Excursion

What a day our international students had with their first introduction to Australian wildlife!

The group visited where they got up close and personal with some of our fuzziest natives!

They then headed to The Bluff at Encounter Bay for some incredible views but had to hold on tight so they didn’t get blown away!

Back in the safety of Victor Harbor, they had lunch together and spent some time getting to know each other. We can’t wait to see what other adventures they get up to this term!

Phone Policy and Yondr Pouches

Thank you to all of our students and families for their support with implementing the South Australian Government ban on mobile phones in schools in 2023.

When dropping off/picking up your child(ren), please remember that the middle lane (Gledsdale Road Kiss and Drop) and right lane (Sanderson Road Kiss and Drop) should not be used as a waiting/parking lane.

Local councils are often out and about at schools ensuring the community use these spaces safely.

Parents and Friends

桃子视频 values the contribution of our community and we encourage any of our parents and friend to consider joining the Parents and Friends Group (P&F) in 2024.

The P&F support key functions in the school. Recently, our P&F have held a Sports Day stall, Harmony Day stall, Fun Run and parents are assisting in managing our Street Libraries (outside the Vegetable Garden and Early Years Centre).

Please emailinfo@hcs.sa.edu.auif you are interested in joining P&F and the school will put you in contact with our P&F representative and our Volunteer Coordinator.鈥
